Port specifications

ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation from the exposed OSP
cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not sufficient protection in order to connect these
interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.
Console Port Pin assignments
The console port is a standard male DB-9 connector, as shown in Figure 46. For information about
how you can use this port, refer to Attaching a PC or terminal to the Console port or Ethernet port”
on page 43.

Most PC serial ports require a cable with a female DB-9 connector. However, terminal connections
will vary, requiring a cable with either a DB-9 or DB-25 connector, male or female.
Serial cable options between the ServerIron ADX chassis and a PC or terminal are shown in
Figure 47.
NOTE
As indicated in Figure 46 and Figure 47, some of the wires should not be connected. If you do
connect the wires that are labeled “Reserved”, you might get unexpected results with some
terminals.

Management Port Pin assignments
The management port is an RJ-45 UTP connector. Table 11 describes the connector pin
assignments. For information about how you can use this port, refer to Attaching the management
module Ethernet port to a network” on page 44.
