38 ServerIron ADX NAT64 Configuration Guide
53-1002444-02
Stateless NAT64 dynamic mapping configuration
3
DRAFT: BROCADE CONFIDENTIAL
Configuring NAT64 hold-off intervals for DNS discoveries
By default, a DNS discovery (or refresh) fails if three retries time out or if the DNS server returns an
error. In this situation, the NAT64 gateway can still receive traffic intended for IPv4 resources.
Use the nat64 dns-fail-holdoff command to direct the ServerIron ADX to wait a specified period of
time (in seconds) before retrying a request to the DNS server. In the following example, the hold-off
interval is set to 300 seconds:
ServerIron ADX(config)# nat64 dns-fail-holdoff 300
Syntax: [no] nat64 dns-fail-holdoff <holdoff-interval>
The <holdoff-interval> variable is configured in seconds. Configurable values are from 10 through
3600 seconds. The default value is 180 seconds.
NAT64 prefetched dynamic mapping configuration
The NAT64 gateway can be configured prefetched dynamic mappings—to periodically send PTR
queries to the DNS server to determine the IPv4 address translations for the IPv6 destination
addresses specified. The NAT64 gateway uses this information to populate its mapping table.
The tasks required to configure a ServerIron ADX for NAT64 translation using mapping tables that
are dynamically generated using prefetched queries include the following:
“Configuring NAT64 IPv6 prefixes with prefetched dynamic learning” on page 38
“Configuring NAT64 IPv4 prefixes with prefetched dynamic learning” on page 38
“Configuring NAT64 prefetched dynamic learning” on page 39
Advanced configuration tasks include “Configuring NAT64 hold-off intervals for DNS discoveries”
on page 39.
Configuring NAT64 IPv6 prefixes with prefetched dynamic learning
The NAT64 gateway uses a NAT64 IPv6 prefix to create a synthesized IPv6 address to represent
IPv4 resources to the IPv6 network.
Enter a command such as the following:
ServerIron ADX(config)# nat64 ipv6-prefix 2001:db8:8000::0/96 stateless
Syntax: [no] nat64 ipv6-prefix <prefix/subnet> stateless
The <prefix/subnet> variable specifies the IPv4 prefix that will be used by the ServerIron ADX when
operating as a NAT64 gateway.
The stateless operand is required for stateless NAT64 gateway configurations. Only one IPv6 prefix
can be designated as stateless using this option.
Configuring NAT64 IPv4 prefixes with prefetched dynamic learning
In a NAT64 configuration, the IPv4 prefix defines the range of IPv4 addresses that can be used to
represent the IPv4 resources to the IPv6 network.
